The Last Chapter should:

  • state the conclusions you have drawn from your work,
  • compare your conclusions with the opinions of other people (Are your conclusions the same or different?),
  • suggest what new work should be done to answer questions raised by your work and extend our knowledge further.
Good Writing Style Short scientific articles, such as the sections in a paper or in the chapters in a thesis, have a title and a number of paragraphs. The title indicates the main topic in the article. The first sentence in each paragraph indicates what the paragraph is about . The other sentences give facts and reasoning about the topic of the paragraph.

Option citereset=chapter defines biblatex behavior for the reference footnote text in a typical situation when a citation appears several times in the document: footnote text for the particular citation is printed only once per document chapter ( citereset=chapter ), where chapter is defined according to the LaTeX sectioning commands . In my thesis a typical chapter includes about 20 pages, and I assumed citereset=chapter to be quite acceptable. However, one of my colleagues was confused by such a rule for printing the footnote text (., he did not get the logic behind the rule until I have explained it). I was thinking about resetting footnote text as "once-per-page" (not "once-per-chapter") but decided to avoid this due to high density of the references in my thesis. If you are interested in such a behavior some useful information can be found here .

The thesis abstract or summary is what will be read first, to give an indication of the parameters of the study, its depth and breadth, its context and the scholarly contribution it makes. It may be the basis on which a prospective examiner agrees (or not!) to examine your thesis. It is important that it is written in a concise and focussed manner so that it identifies the salient features of the research, the problem or research question, the approach adopted, and its findings. In general the thesis abstract is about 300 words, and for Monash doctoral theses, no more than 500. (Check the norm in your discipline.)
